Used this for my police scanner homepatrol2This mount is for sure one thing. Extra beefy and super tough! If you haven't seen RAM mounts you might be shocked at their heft on first sight. That's certainly a very good thing for those who want or need it. You probably could pull your truck out of the mud with this thing no sweat if you get stuck off roading. But consider what you really need. This mount could be overkill for those who do not need that much heft and sturdiness. It is a truly huge mount that literally dwarfs the GPS unit. it may obscure more your view in a car when mounted to the windshield and could be more of an injury risk in accidents. Because of it's beefiness it also seems to be built to a bit cruder standards and finishing than lighter more sophisticated GPS mounts. The term "industrial grade" comes to mind when I look at this thing. It sure is the a GPS "MOM" (Mother Of a Mount) - I bought mine with teh also excellent RAM cradle for Garmin Oregon series GPS to mount my Oregon 450 to the dash or the windshield on my 24 ft. Sea Ray Sundeck boat. It will be perfect for that purpose since boat rides can get really rough in the chop and I need to make sure the GPS stays positively put. For an in-car mount I would consider lighter mounts unless its for four-wheeling and rough-riding in an off-road vehicle. One good aspect of all RAM mounts is that they are system mounts with flexibility and ability to mix and match bases with carriers and cradles. RAM gives you more options to assemple your perfect mounting solution for bike, boat, car or truck than any other mount manufacturer. So if you change GPS units you only need a new cradle and not the entire mount. It would be good if they'd introduce a "RAM Lite" product line with less heft. The only reason I gave it four stars is the fact that it is a bit crudely built and not as refined as it could be.I have a Jeep and I take it offroad. That means that I spend all day bouncing around under the hot sun while everything gets dusty and dirty. Once, I watched my "permanently mounted" Garmin mount attachment plastic turn from a solid to a semi-solid and my GPS unit slowly went from the dashboard to the floor. Yeah, it was hot outside.I have a new Jeep now, and I wasn't sure where I wanted my GPS unit to be permanently mounted. A temporary solution was in order, but I didn't believe that anything would work very well, honestly. I wanted to stick the GPS unit to the windshield, but I didn't believe that anything would withstand all of the bouncing around and all of the changes in temperature.Boy, was I wrong! I have stuck this RAM Mount onto my windshield a dozen times, taking it off again to clean the dusty, dirty windshield. Once it's on, it never moves. Ever. The way the suction cup works is genius. You stick it on with a regular suction cup, and then twist the lever at the base to pull the interior of the suction cup far from the glass, making it stick even more. I'm not sure it would be possible to tear it off without releasing the lever again. In addition to all of that, you can twist the mount all over the place to get it in exactly the right position. That puts the GPS exactly where I want it instead of where some other company wants it. Perfect!I contacted RAM Mount before purchasing this, to get some pre-sales advice. They were very helpful. I'm going to continue to purchase mounts and cradles from RAM Mount. I'm really impressed!I recently needed to mount several GPS-related displays in the cockpit of my small plane and discovered the RAM line of products. My compact space requirements required mounting items securely without obscuring the view of any other critical instruments or displays. Consequently I had to try a few combinations of RAM components before I found one was just right. As an engineer with a great deal of design experience I am impressed with the design and workmanship of all of the RAM components I have tried. I'm also very pleased and impressed by the fact that the manufacturer provides detailed mechanical drawings of almost all their components on their website, making it easier to design multi-component mounting options. Moreover, I consider the prices of the components to be very reasonable. I am a frugal and careful shopper but for the quality of the designs and workmanship, I would have frankly expected to pay more.I ordered this last week. It is shipped as two pieces - the twist lock suction cup base and the socket arm. It's no big deal, as there are only two phillips head screws required to attach it. When I received the package, I was actually traveling on a business trip and needed this mount for a project (I had it shipped to my hotel). Fortunately, I happened to have a small phillips screwdriver packed into my luggage. My concern is that when I assembled the socket arm to the suction base, the second screw cannot be fully torqued down - it's almost as if the threads in the (plastic) twist-lock suction cup base were stripped. The first screw torqued down nicely without stripping. The "loose" screw stayed in place so it's not 100% stripped but it's definitely not as secure as the other screw. I will be returning it for an exchange.Despite the flaw, I had no choice and I used the mount (with a RAM iphone 6 mount cradle) and it seemed fairly secure for the most part. I did notice some shake in the video I recorded with this mount so I'm not sure if it has to do with my particular mount being partially faulty or if it's normal.I bought this to hang my iPhone 7+ on the windshield. It is a sturdy mount - the mount has been stuck to my windshield for several weeks without falling off.It was sturdy enough for me to record a pretty steady video from my phone during a track day event at a bumpy track. Also, it has an lot of adjustability to help you adjust the angle just right.Probably works fine on a windshield, but I want to use it as a dash mount. Doesn't stick well at all on dash - had to purchase a separate sticky pad for the suction cup to hold - even though dash is level and fairly smooth. Would give it 5 stars if came with the sticky pad. Sehr stabile Halterung. Super Montage aber dennoch nicht Vibrationsfrei.Punktabzug für den doch enorm hohen Preis. Inkl Smartphone Halter kommen gleich über 110eur zusammen.
