I'm a little skeptical that this product would provide enough support for a laptop. There is only one mounting point (inner/center passenger seat mounting bolt), which may be insufficient to support a 3- or more-pound laptop securely. There are other products, not manufactured by RAM, that may provide greater stability than this could. My install was to support a 7" LCD screen as part of a backup camera installation. This mounting option works great. Originally, I installed the backup camera and cabling up to the vehicle console and then started using it to gain some experience as to where the screen would best be located. After a few days, I chose this product and mounted it upon receipt. I also ordered a few other RAM products with which to complete the install, including a RAM 14" Long Extension Pole with (2 qty) 1"" Diameter Ball Ends, and Double Socket Arm. I mention this because I found that device to be totally inadequate in my installation. The reason is that, since the shaft of that product is made of black PVC plastic, it became sufficiently hot in my vehicle while it was sitting in the sun to cause it to deform under the weight of the LCD screen. I replaced that particular component of the installation with a Kayalu Gear Toughbar® 8.5" extension arm for RAM Mounts, which I purchased from the Kayalu website because I didn't need the extra double socket arm that comes with the same Kayalu product offered on Amazon, thus saving a little money. I did have to pay for shipping, so it might be less costly to order from Amazon whether one needs the extra double socket arm or not, since your order will probably come with the shipping paid - a small consideration.Back to the RAM POD Universal No-Drill Vehicle Laptop Mount: Thus far, in an experience of about 1-month, I can say that this product meets my expectations. True, there is some vibration while the vehicle is moving. It seems inconceivable that one could eliminate vibration because there is always some present from the road and with maneuvering on turns and such. This is not a factor in my installation because my speed is low when backing up, which is the only time the backup camera is switched on. If one were to support a smart phone or some other device that is intended to be in use while moving forward, the vibration may become a factor. I suppose it's fruitless to suggest that a driver shouldn't be operating a device with a screen while driving, thus diverting the driver's attention from the road, as responsible drivers won't do this and those who are not so inclined aren't going to heed this advice anyway. It makes me wonder how some drivers manage to live out their full life-expectancy...I suppose that's why we have the Darwin Awards... Anyway, this product works well for lighter devices in my experience. For those who propose to support devices with which they intend to interact, I'd suggest investing in a self-driving vehicle when Google and car manufacturers get done testing them and they become commercially available. In the meantime, I'm going to exercise a great deal of caution - 'cause it never ceases to amaze me how irresponsible and foolish some drivers actually are! Good luck to all of us with that and good luck with your install. I like this product.
