I tried using a small tough claw initially as I'm intending to use this on boats and wanted something easy and quick to remove, but that didn't have enough grip to not slowly slip down. The ball on this item doesn't seem to be quite a rubbery/grippy as the other 1.5" ram balls I've used, but it works perfectly, holding a 10" tablet without slipping one bit. Sturdiest mount I've seen for a tablet so far, I can press any button with just one hand, even the side ones through a case and it doesn't budge, well worth carrying a spanner (11mm) for this vs the tough claw
