Be advised that, in addition to the double ball ends, this product has 1/4" NPT threads (Pipe Threads) on the side tee arm. The female threaded tee is about 1/2" in diameter with 18 threads per inch. It will not fit a 1/4" stud, such as the 20 threads per inch camera mount stud. I didn't realize that when I ordered, intending to thread a 1/4" Ram Mount 1-inch Ball using it's 1/4-inch 20 (threads per inch) Male Threaded Post. I found that wouldn't fit due to the large diameter of the female NPT fitting as compared to the much smaller 20-male threaded post. I contacted RAM Mounts directly and spoke with a customer service representative who said that RAM sometimes makes parts for which there is no particular use, suggesting that this was one such item. He had no idea what the product's purpose might be and had nothing to offer with which to affix a 1" ball to it. (To be fair, he did point me to three RAM products that would fit, each essentially a different length of 1/4" i.o. pipe with 1/4" NPT threads, but none of those were an option for my intended use. He also suggested that I could use the RAM Mounts (RAM-B-289U) Triple 1" Ball Base instead. Since Triple 1" Ball Base is a good deal more bulky than the Double Ball Base w/1/4" NPT, it wouldn't work in the tight install I had in mind, so I devised a means of modifying it to fit my situation as follows:I successfully modified it by threading a brass 1/4" NPT solid plug, cutting it off flush and then I drilled it with a 7/32" bit, finally finishing it off by tapping the drill hole with a 1/4" 20 threads/inch tap. Thus the RAM Mount 1-inch Ball with 1/4-inch 20 Male threads fits it as if it were designed for that purpose. (And, I guess I did...) So, if you're handy, just about anything is possible. (There's more than one way to skin a cat....as I've heard it said...) It may be notable to be aware that 1/4" 20 threads per inch is the same as a tripod mount. The following describes the rest of the installation:I modified this RAM Mount Double Ball Base w1/4" NPT female threaded connector (above) to be used as part of a dash cam installation in my car, which has a long, angled windshield. As I didn't want to trust the suction cup mount included with the camera, I used a Ram Mount Rail Base with Stainless Steel U-Bolt attached to the rear mirror stem to begin the installation and then added several components, including a tee assembly that employs this (modified) RAM Mount Double Ball Base w/1/4" NPT female threaded tee with a Ram Mount 1-Inch Ball with 1/4-Inch 20 Male threaded post and a RAM Mounts RAM-B-238 RAM 2.43" x 1.31" Diamond Base paired with a Ram Mount Light Series Composite Double Socket in order to connect another leg to a RAM Mount Suction Cup Base stuck midway down the windshield for additional stability as the entire installation extends nearly the full angled horizontal distance. It's all suspended over the dashboard a couple of inches. The installation is rock-solid and there is no "bounce" in the system, mainly because I was able to "tee" off the main components to add additional support from the RAM suction cup attached to the windshield surface. I added a Ram Mount EZY-Mount Quick Release Adapter to allow for easy removal after simply unplugging the power cable, which travels over the RAM Mount system to disappear into the headliner over to and inside the side post and finally courses under the dash to the power connection.Like almost all RAM products, this is a quality item that works well in its intended use. I'll purchase this and other RAM products again if needed.
